Fall is coming to a close, and winter is upon us. When the weather turns cold, my thoughts gravitate toward the holiday. December, for me, is infused with a musical spirit, like no other time of year. Being surrounded by Christmas music at each years' end was a vital part of my melodic upbringing. So I'd like to pass that energy along to you, with a free acoustic holiday live stream special on Sunday, December 17th at 4pm Pacific. I’d like to present to you, CATCHING SNOWFLAKES.
When I was young, I would always look forward to the day that our family would assemble our artificial Christmas tree and decorate it together. My hands stained with forest green dye, the carpet scattered with fake plastic pine needles. The thought of this ritual still evokes a strong feeling of nostalgia and warmth for me now.
I was raised in the church, where Christmas had a very strong spiritual meaning, but I was captivated by and enamored with the cultural aesthetic of red and green, ice and snow, bells and lights. A festive cacophony to close out each year, all wrapped up in songs with rich and varied lore. I'm so into it.
I'll be playing some classic Christmas tunes, a few originals, and some covers of my favorite holiday songs by modern artists as well. I'm excited to excavate my memory and search my heart and mind for the songs that move me the most, so I can learn and share them with you.
